The Immanence of God: preaching that God is the everywhere present, impersonal power, manifesting as life through life!
This belief in the immanence of God was preached by Spinoza, who was shunned by the Jewish community as a result of his teachings. The immanence was also taught by Giordano Bruno, who was burned alive 100 years before Spinoza for the same preaching. I first came across this teaching after a session with a regressionist many years ago. In the regression I found myself in Amsterdam and an admirer of Spinoza. At the time of this regression I had no idea who or what Spinoza was. In fact, I thought he might be a piano! As the years went by I came to know Spinoza better and I recognized elements of Spinoza’s philosophy in Spiritualism. Next, I came across Spinoza in Anne Braude’s book where she mentions that the pioneers of Spiritualism preached the immanence of God. And finally, in preparation for a talk I was giving in the Lily Dale auditorium I discovered the immanence of God in the NSAC manual. It took me almost thirty years to realize the full impact of Spinoza on Spiritualism. My own desire to delve more deeply into the philosophy that supports our religion, and the openings it gives to greater understanding was born that day in Key West. At that regression the facilitator told me that if I lived in Amsterdam I must be a Calvinist. My response was that I was Jewish. The woman (not very professional) told me that was impossible! There were no Jews in Amsterdam. In that moment from a place inside of me, that I did not know existed, I shouted “Spinoza is here”! Guided by my grandmother in spirit I left the woman’s office. I went home to study and stretch my awareness to include more than before. I found out that Spinoza was not a piano, and that our pioneers were wise and wonderful bringers of enlightenment to the thirsty hearts of this new age of modern spiritualism. The immanence of God! Each word is filled with a teaching that needs no ritual or the blessing of some higher authority. Everywhere present is simple and clean. Everywhere is everywhere in time or out of time and in this time and all time. We are spirit and, free of the body, we too are everywhere at once; simultaneously and with clear understanding. Many who have had near death experiences share with us their experiences of bi and tri location. And even in this physical modern world we have the evidence of Father Pio seen preaching in two different villages simultaneously. This gift is a gift of the spirit and is ours to claim. Impersonal power is beautiful. Power need not do anything. Will we ever embrace impersonal power? Not judge! Not choose sides! Power with no agenda! Allow the impersonal power that is ours by divine right to stand in knowing that we are spirit and have no need. No need to win! No need to fear! As we embrace the spirit of impersonal power no one can claim that God is on their side. No one could claim they are doing God’s work as they wage war and condemn their neighbor. War and condemnation are not attributes of God. God does not choose sides or bless one over another. The final words in the quote are my favorite and the most thrilling! God manifesting as life through life! To know without reservation that God fills every molecule of your being and every facet of life! God in and of itself conceived. Infinite intelligence! Our fears, our egos can begone! God is all there is and anything other than God is the Maya. I will close this message with the wit of Celeste Elliott. Recently I was a guest on Celeste Elliott’s “Wake up to Spirit”; a live broadcast Celeste does weekly on Thursday mornings out of Lily Dale. We were discussing a variety of subjects. At one point in the broadcast we were discussing the immanence of God, and in particular the spirit gift of everywhere present. I spoke briefly of Anita Moorjani and her NDE; particularly her experience of all time existing simultaneously. We can focus where we choose. Moorjani could access doctors talking in the hallway, her hospital room, and also her brother on an airplane. George Rodania also gave an account of his NDE and he too experienced simultaneous situations. I also quoted Black Elk the Ogala Sioux mystic who tells us that “peace will come when we realize that at the center of the Universe dwells the great Spirit. That spirit is everywhere! It is in each one of us.” Celeste responded with this quip that was quick and witty. “Well then: For anybody you know who thinks they are the center of the universe…. they are right!” We are amazing! We are the light at the end of the tunnel! And one day we will awaken and realize this truth. Namaste! emmy
