“From the soul using the body as an instrument, it does not follow that
the Soul must share the body’s experience: a man does not himself feel all the experiences of the tools with which he is working.”    Plotinus   204-270 AD
The spirit comes into body to allow itself to experience physical in all its many facets.  And as the beginning quote tells us; our soul does not suffer.   We truly feel what we wish to feel.  Many times, in horrific accidents or situations, we leave the body to spare the bodily and/or emotional pain of what is at the moment. This is a common occurrence.  I feel we all have at some time experienced this phenomenon.  The body is not alive to pain, emotional or physical without the animating presence of spirit.  Spirit animates the body and allows the body to feel.  When spirit withdraws, when we are out of body, we do not feel or experience physicality.  One could even say that we as spirit live a vicarious life!  Enjoying physicality and all its ups with the certain knowledge that we are actually spirit and cannot be harmed by the physical.
Spirit, which is ONE manifesting as life through life, does not feel pain or sad or any manner of negative emotion.  I know that when my mother was making her transition, I felt certain that she must be very uncomfortable… perhaps suffering.  Instead she told me that most of the time she was not even here!  She was out of body and having “the time of her life”!  “Time” and enjoying it all to the fullest.
We know that we are as much spirit now as we ever will be.  Did we perhaps drink from the River Lethe?  Deliberately handicap ourselves?  Forget who we are - just “for the fun of it”?  We know that Buddha explains his being as one who has awakened.  So, we too must awaken from the waters of the Lethe.  Our spirit self already is!  We cannot take from or add to infinite spirit any part.  Perhaps we as spirit are the guide to the sleeping self; also known as the human.  The human, or lost one, is not we the spirit but the lost one who is having difficulty awakening.  We are the guardian angel!  Guardian angel to ourselves.  We are the awakened and the sleeping.  The two must become one in God.
It is for many of the above reasons that I prefer the expression “spiritual unfoldment classes” as we as spirit gradually allow our spirit gifts to manifest as they unfold in perfect timing to share with our human self.  As spirit we have not lost our essence, but perhaps deliberately clouded it in order to “play the game of life”.
And just to complicate things more we know that everything that ever was or ever will be already is!  And everything is happening NOW.  The eternal now.   So together we and all of life, spiritual and physical, work towards self-realization and heaven here on earth.  All the many lives we experience are all now.   We manipulate time in order to experience and to enjoy all the possible earthly experiences.  We are one person having many life experiences.  Sri Aurobindo tells us:  SELF-KNOWLEDGE:   OUR HUMAN REALIZATION OF THE DIVINE, IS THE SELF IN US BECOMING ALL EXISTENCES…
THE IMMANENCE OF GOD: PREACHING THAT GOD IS THE EVERYWHERE PRESENT, IMPERSONAL POWER, MANIFESTING AS LIFE THROUGH LIFE; IN AND OF ITSELF CONCEIVED; WHOSE KNOWLEDGE DOES NOT DEPEND ON THE KNOWLEDGE OF ANY OTHER THING.
The immanence quote comes to us from the pioneers of Spiritualism.  Passed down from ancient and modern-day philosophers.  Thank you pioneers for “preaching” (sharing) all your well-earned wisdom.  This life is a complicated and glorious adventure.  We know we are safe in the mind of God.  It is only our fears that delay our awakening.  Let’s ask questions!  Lets explore the mysteries!  Follow the pioneers and hold all belief open to restatement as growing thought and investigation reveal new truth.
I close with Andrew Jackson Davis: “I DO NOT PROMISE TO BELIEVE TOMORROW EXACTLY WHAT I BELIEVE TODAY, AND I DO NOT BELIEVE TODAY EXACTLY WHAT I BELIEVED YESTERDAY.  I EXPECT TO MAKE, AS I HAVE MADE, SOME HONEST PROGRESS WITHIN EVERY SUCCEEDING TWENTY-FOUR HOURS.
                                                                                                                          Namaste! emmy chetkin
