When saying nothing said everything …..
Many years ago, when I would serve as a student medium at the 5:30 Stump service I had a lesson in “trust” from Spirit. After I was called up to serve; as I turned to face the congregation I was drawn to the smile of a little lady with delicate, bird-like features about four rows back. After getting permission to bring her a message, I said “I have a mother’s energy here who has that same smile.” And then, as if someone pulled down a room-darkening blind, the image before me went black. I said “Um, everything just went black, I guess she has nothing more to say, um, let me see if anyone else has something.” A grandfather stepped forward and I gave her his message. After the service, the medium chairing the service tried to reassure me not to be discouraged. The little lady and her escort, I assumed a son, caught up with me and she said she wanted to share an explanation of what the message meant to her. She told me her mother had been in Spirit for many years and it had been a long time since she had sensed her presence. Her mother had served as a medium at Stump services. And she explained that on the walk to the Stump she had asked her mother “to make her presence known, she didn’t need to say anything! “ That was over twenty years ago, and I’m still moved by a message that said “nothing”. I learned that day that as a medium the message is not mine to understand; it is just for me to deliver and trust the receiver will. I’ve also learned from other experiences that the understanding is not always instantaneous. All you can do is trust the process. Peace, Roy Montgomery

The breath of life is our magic wand! One night recently I was restless and unable to sleep. I was drawn to the magical breath of life. I began to breathe slow calming breaths that I hoped would allow me the gift of sleep.
I reminded myself of the sacredness of our breath, and how every breath is a prayer. As I acknowledged the sacredness of our breath beyond the physical sustaining necessity of life, I felt better and better. I wondered about the rest of my life and how it would unfold. Lisa Williams had brought me a copy of Anita Moorjanis’ book signed by Anita: “ Emmy! live life fearlessly”! Powerful words! We can all embrace those words. They carry the power given to us all at birth; the power and the gift of choosing our actions and our reactions to the gifts and the challenges of life. When we do this consciously, we allow life to flow through us animating every cell and every molecule in ways we may not have experienced. A life that is shimmering, fully engaged, and lifted into the lightness of being. Our true self is not so much concerned with doing as with being! The lightness of being is available to us all. Life will always have challenges. Patricia Hayes would remind us; tests and challenges …….peace and enjoyment! Our breath can carry us over the bumps on the road of life. Our breath is our connection to spirit. Breathe! Once many years ago I was in a therapy session and having the biggest pity party. I must have been making a lot of noise because my teacher came into the room and asked; “have you suffered enough Emmy?” I was jolted into awareness! That jolt of awareness brought a reminder. Yes, I have suffered enough. Breathe! Namaste! Emmy Chetkin We live and breathe and have our being within the mind of God! The words are not cloaked in mystery. The message is straightforward, enlightening, and comforting. As Spiritualists we call upon this reminder of our well-being many times in lectures, in prayers, and in class. Like so many truths we often repeat this information mindlessly; without thinking. And yet this verse tells us that what we experience as “physical” is within the mind of God; including ourselves and all that is. There is no place outside of God, there is no being outside of God. If this was not a true statement, then God would not be all there is! All that we see; all that we experience; all that we do is taking place within the mind of God. You can see the example of this awareness echoed in our dreams. Dreams appear real, feel real. Dreams take place in our mind. In the book Johnathan Living Seagull......Jonathan flies to an amazing height and is in awe of the beauty and atmosphere. He turns to his teacher Chiang and says, “this must be heaven”! And Chiang tells Jonathan; ‘there is no place called heaven.” Our second principle states God is all there is. If God is all there is, then it is impossible for other than God to be. We would bless these words; take these words and cherish them. We relax in the arms of these words until we are able to expand our minds to live in the full beauty of God’s creation. Let us meditate upon the verse and know that within the mind of God we are one, manifesting as the many. Einstein says that our belief in separation is a delusion of consciousness and is a prison for us. Einstein goes on to say we must free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature. Sri Aurobindo says that as we are allowing the expansion of our awareness as we come to our human realization of the divine. And our human realization of the divine is the self in us becoming all existences! We are indeed one manifesting as the many. In grade school a beautiful nun told us that if God stopped thinking of us, we would not be. I was only a small child and her words alarmed me. I may not have understood her words, but I never forgot them. The memory of that nun comes forward to remind me of that long ago day. We are all safe within the mind of God! There is no other place! God is all there is!
Namaste! emmy chetkin Patricia Hayes taught me that important key to manifestation many years ago at her school, in Georgia. If we are struggling with an issue or praying for manifestation of a dream; Patricia said, “bring it into the physical”. And this can be done easily just by writing whatever it is you are dreaming of on a piece of paper. Over the years I have come to appreciate that message. When you write something down it goes from thought to physical. Your idea is now on paper. How many times have we had an inspirational thought and let it pass, thinking we would surely remember it! Write it down! We also contribute to our ideas when we take a walk, go to the store, or meet with friends. I am not talking about a planned walk for the purpose of a desired manifestation. (Though that is a help also) However, even without a plan, we attract the vibrations we need. We live in a sea of vibrations. The vibrations we seek also seek us. Everything is here to remind us to remember who we are. Our ideas benefit from our many experiences. If you are planting a garden, you will not reap the fruits of the seed you hold if you do not allow it to be exposed to the elements of growth. The seed of a plant needs earth, sun, air, and water to mature and become what it holds. We need the vibrations of all aspects of self to help activate our hopes and dreams. And where are these aspects of self? They are in all we see. We see these aspects as separate, but we are one. Without saying a word, without any reference to our thoughts, the vibrations in this physical world around and about us move us to action. We live in a sea of vibrations! This exposure to vibration gives our ideas the energy to move to the desired action. We are one energy with access to all areas of our being. Not separate! One energy filled with all the necessities of life. One energy that manifests as the many. The many that are the One.
Namaste! Emmy chetkin We create life’s scenarios from our mind, from our imagination! We know there is only the one and from the one comes forth all the events and situations we experience here in our beautiful dream time. The oneness has no need of others but creates the illusion of self in all that is. We are the manifestation of all that is, and it is to this awareness that we will one day awaken. We have been told for so long that we are sinners and unworthy; many cultures used human sacrifice to “appease” disapproving gods or God. In many religions the idea of a disapproving God persists today. How could we ever awaken to the divine when we have been conditioned to believe that God judges us? We are playing hide and seek with ourselves. In fear we turn from God; in love we run to God. Who are we?
Hakuin tells us that “when you wake up you will find that this whole world above and below is nothing more than a regarding of oneself.” Oneself! There is no other. Our awareness is distracted by our belief and manifestation of duality, of otherness. Einstein tells us that the belief in separation is a delusion of consciousness! Realization of oneness allows all information and all experiences to be available to us. Oneness allows all information to be disseminated throughout our life. Feeling is our line of communication. With or without words, or pictures, or explanation; if the information is of interest or helpful to us, we feel it. What a miraculous treasure! There are no secrets and there is no other. All lives are available to us! It has been many years since I have read the Seth books by Jane Roberts but I know one of those books refers to Seth and the museum of time. That title captured my imagination. We have access to all the information in the museum. There are no secrets, and there is no other. Soon after his transition my husband came to me with a key. I could see that if he chose, he could return to the life he had just left. A life where he felt he had not always done his best for himself or others. We can revisit and live those times. They assist us in our path to do better and perhaps to atone for wrongdoing, consciously or unconsciously. And most importantly these returns help bring us to our true self. We are oneness! There is no other. Know thyself and you will know God! “The disciple must know God as the One who eternally becomes the Many, the many who in their apparent division are eternally one.” Sri Aurobindo Namaste! emmy chetkin 'you have within you more love than you could ever understand' - Rumi
A chance to love! How many chances do we get to love in life? A lot! The chance to love is the gift we receive from the creator as we enter life. Let us use this gift and use it and use it! How many times in a day or a week or a month so we make the choice to not love? The choice to love is always present! I often quote my friend and teacher who would answer when I would question loving everyone. “You have to love Emmy. You do not have to take them home with you.” Picture for a moment ‘you’ at the pearly gates, and now inside, and now face to face with the creator. Your life rolls in front of you and all those moments you chose not to love are presented to you. What a travesty, what a sad day! I actually play that game with myself from time to time, and those times I chose to withhold love, make me want to hide. I resolve once more to not let those opportunities to love ever slip away. and yet again, in yet another disguise, the chance to love presents itself and once more I harden my heart. I turn my head. I forget we are one. I forget we are love. I unconsciously make my decision. That no goodnik does not deserve love! That person is pesky, too needy, annoying, too loud, too quiet, mean, manipulating… For whatever is my rationale at the moment I have withheld love. Love is for sale! We decide who deserves our love and who has earned it. In these moments of withhold we could remind ourselves that them most seemingly horrible person needs the healing balm of love the most. William Law tells us: ‘Love has no errors. All errors are a lack of love’ There is nothing stopping us from sending love in any situation. You do not have to take the person home with you! Send love from the silence of your heart. Energy never lies and our love is felt whenever we open the channels; and opening the channels is easy because loving is our purpose. “I believe that the reason for life is for all of us simply to grow in love” - leo tolstoy Recorded by many artists is this song: ‘Why me lord? what have I done to deserve even one of the blessings I’ve known? Why me lord? what did I ever do that was worth love from you and the kindness you’ve shown?’ This song was not my husbands style of singing, but he would sing it endlessly for me because I loved it so much. It became my mantra in difficult times. I know that the love we are given from the creator to supports on this earthly path is not earned. We are treated as temples of love and this love was meant to sustain one another as the one we are. This precious powerful love sits so patiently and so abundantly waiting for us to let it flow. What a glorious purpose we have! What a powerful mission. A mission so sacred, so profound and so simple! Love one another! We cannot use love up, and we cannot misplace it or put it in the wrong place. It is never the wrong time to love! May we all enjoy a loving and joyous holiday season! Namaste Emmy After a grocery run with my two young grandchildren, I decided to break one of my daughters’ rules. The one about no sugar! The children were delighted as we pulled into Tim Hortons for doughnuts. I think I lessened the crime by getting us only water to drink! When we arrived at the window for our doughnuts, I had my dollars ready but the woman at the window said; “no need for you to pay. The customer ahead of you took care of your bill.” Adrian my nine-year-old grandson was in a state of surprise. “Grandma a random person paid our bill!” And that awareness was followed by him saying “what goes around comes around”. And so began a discussion that continued from Jamestown to home. I explained that while we are many people, we are really one big energy and that means that when you give to one you are giving to all. I told them that is why Jesus said, “what you do unto the least of these my brethren you do for me.” I was happy that he had recognized the phrase and knew enough to see it applied in this situation. So, I pushed my window of opportunity a little further and suggested we send our energy of “thank you and have a good day” to the generous man who had paid our bill. No problem! I had them captive in the car and they enjoyed the talking and were also eager to get home and share the event! I reminded myself that spirit speaks to us and gives us inspiration on a regular basis and that this small interaction was a gift. I may have missed it but for the children. Children surely carry the gift of wonder and expression to us from the spirit world. My grandmother always said that their shoulder blades were a remnant of our angel wings; a physical reminder to us all that under our egos and sometimes negative behavior we are good. Today’s busy fast paced world does not allow for much contemplation. We have to choose the quiet and the silence. I will close with a story about my granddaughter and the wisdom of children. Rosie likes to play a game called Memory. She always wins!! A few weeks ago, after yet another win; she looks at me with a twinkle in her eyes and says; “I won again, and I did not even use my abilities”! Let us bless these babes who come to us full of amazing understanding and wisdom. They trust us! If we help make space and the time to respect their stories, their dreams and announcements they will grow into the amazing teachers and lights they have come to express.
Namaste! emmy chetkin Sometimes on this journey through time, we are surprised to see facets of self that we had not been aware of. These little demons jump out at us and are interesting to meet. I am not talking about big glaring faults that others are only too happy to point out to you. I am talking about relatively small errors that can develop behind the scenes of our life. These are always present, but we do not see them clearly! Once they show their faces, we can become flooded with all the times in our life that they were right in our line of vision. I have had many such encounters and after my initial “oh no”, I am grateful to meet them while I still have time to (hopefully) be more aware and to the best of my ability clean the areas of my life that have come forward for healing. Ram Das called this “polishing the mirror”. Polishing the mirror through which we know ourselves. To “know thyself” is over the entrance to Delphi in Greece. It does not say keep tabs on what others are doing. And nowhere have I seen it said, ‘bring the perceived errors of our neighbor to the attention of others”. I remind you this is not in the light of criminal acts, or abuse of the vulnerable. We are discussing human frailties that we are all guilty of but do not recognize! Errors that do no harm other than to self. Of course, often our little errors can be at the very least annoying to others. They can also block awareness of greater errors! It is amazing how embarrassed one can be in the privacy of home as we become aware of the mistakes we have made and do make on a regular basis! Just the act of being aware of the problem is important and puts us on the path of clearing space for greater understanding. We really do not have to “do”; we need only “be”. The very consciousness of being aware is a blessing. A healing! Awareness is a part of waking up! This message came to be because a friend and I were at the same moment made aware of sharing the same issue. We are here with one another for a reason. We serve one another even when we do not realize the nature of our being together. A story is told of a man in despair and lamenting life... he asks the woman with him: “What’s the point of living?” The woman thinks for a long time and she says: “we have each other” ..... We do have each other and everyone in our life is a gift!
Namaste! emmy chetkin I loved the book Jonathan Livingston Seagull. I especially liked Chiang and the lessons he taught Jonathan. Near the end of the book one of those lessons came when Jonathan had arrived in a world that was not familiar to him. Jonathan felt that because everything in that world was so fast and so different that it must be heaven; but Jonathan soon senses that this is not heaven. He says to his teacher; this world isn’t heaven at all is it? Chiang replies,” there is no place called heaven Jonathan.” Heaven and any “place “or Space implies dimension. Time implies distance. Know that this is all from our mind! Heaven is a state of bliss that we create! We have no need to go anywhere. It is all here and now. It is all here within us. As spirit we are everywhere present. This is found in the preaching’s of the immanence of God by the early pioneers of Spiritualism. Spirit cannot be contained in a box! Nor does spirit go “places”. It is all here and now and created from our mind. Heaven is not a place, and it is not a time. Heaven is a state of being. God itself is a state of being. We are one. When the oneness speaks, we all hear it. It resonates as truth through our being. It is not so difficult to accept oneness when it is the truth speaking. While we are not separate from the oneness it does appear that we are missing a piece. A piece of the puzzle that would explain why we forget. There is only you! Why do we sometimes choose not so great situations? Is there a greater purpose in our wanderings that will have us laughing and dancing when we come to the greatest of all “aha” moments? Perhaps without the urgency of belief we would not have any physical experience. Until that day we must trust more! Judge less! There is only you! It is only self we do not trust. Did you read The Surrender Experiment by Michael Singer? He stopped trying to figure it all out and just said yes to everything. And Joseph Campbell urged that we must say yes to life! Do not resist life (futile) or interfere (in to fear). There is nothing to fix! The director, the producer, the author of all this is you! You are the light at the end of the tunnel!! In Genesis “God” created the world and all that is in it. “He” declared it good. All that is, or ever will be, already is! We have access to all that has been created and it is the eternal now and it is here for us to enjoy (at times a very scary movie). When my husband came to me with the key to his life, I knew that he could choose the experience that would best suit him and what he wanted to experience. We are all walking the halls of time and no matter what appears to be we are safe! Be here now! Fully present. Fear not as we are always here! We just forget! I have a very quirky friend and when I am struggling with an understanding she is quick to say; “you must have forgot.” (She says it just like that...you must have forgot!) We have all forgotten! We are indeed the one, manifesting as the many. To understand oneness we must experience oneness, and many have, even if for only a moment. Barry Goldstein had a beautiful moment in his dream and the song that manifested as a result of that awakening. His song tells the story and it is called “the moment”. We have so many helping hands! Our egoistic mind has difficulty understanding all the mysteries. Our infinites self understands it all.
I trust Cora Richmond and what she opened to in one of her many OBEs: “no soul ever goes astray. No soul is ever lost. No soul is shadowed. No soul is darkened. Whatever occurs in human expressions on the earth, or on any planet, can in no way affect the soul in its eternal being nor in its divine quality of absolute life and light.” Namaste! emmy chetkin One who knows others is wise. One who knows himself is enlightened..........Lao Tzu
In this time of relative isolation most of us have more quiet time than normally surrounds our days. And so I did what anyone would do..........I began to clean my office. In the midst of this daunting job, I came across a meditation my husband had many years ago. This meditation was designed to help us in manifesting our true self. He received two words; reveal yourself! As I pondered this long-ago memory, I reminded myself of how often in our long history some version of knowing our true self comes into our line of vision. Yet we are so accustomed to feeling unworthy, as in not good enough that we do not accept the teachings of the ages. Jesus asks us; “have ye forgotten ye are gods?” The answer is given in the gnostic gospels: “abandon the search for God and learn who it is within you. To know thyself is to know God”. The answer is given by Black Elk. “At the center of the universe dwells the great spirit. That center is everywhere. It is in each of us.” The answer is given by Emerson: “Oh man no planet sun or star could hold you if you but knew who you are”. The answer is given by Mohammed when he says, “he who knows his own self knows God”. We are told in so many ways by so many teachers that we are spirit. Spirit grand and glorious. Spirit sensitive and humble. We are also taught the opposite side of that coin. The side that says we are sinners. The Buddha knows himself because he has awakened to the truth. Before his awakening he was asleep. We can all awaken from this deep sleep of Adam. Would we chastise or blame sleeping babies for errors that are only in their dreams? We are those sleeping babies! Carly Simon had a song and, in this song, I only remember two lines: “don’t wake me unless you love me. It takes too long to fall back asleep”. We can love the sleepers! As the self begins to feel safe and to recognize itself, we will awaken. We have bought the lies that we are sinners and must be punished. Cora Richmond learned in her many journeys out of the body that we are not sinners. “No soul ever goes astray. No soul is ever lost. No soul is shadowed. No soul is darkened. Whatever occurs in human expressions on the earth, or on any planet, it cannot in any way affect the soul in its eternal being, nor in its divine quality of absolute life and light”.
