I recently watched the 2017 Netflix short documentary of Ram Dass, an American spiritual teacher, yoga guru psychologist and writer, called “Going Home” In going home, Ram Dass contemplates life, love, and the impending death he was quickly approaching. Ram Dass would “go home” a year later on December 22nd, 2019. I found myself fascinated by his thoughts, his words, his worldly reflections on this brief yet infinite life we live. He used the word “consciousness” which caught my attention and got me thinking.
Consciousness - the state of being awake and aware of one's surroundings especially of something within oneself. How many of us can say that we live in a state of pure consciousness? And if each of us could obtain this state of being on a regular basis, how could this affect our life and change the world we live in? As we enter into another holiday season, and with our world affairs quite unstable and volatile, I challenge each of you to take these winter months, to truly push yourself inward and evaluate who it is you really are. What is your true state of consciousness when it comes to love, compassion, gratitude, and peace. And when you move to your outward self, does this same consciousness stay with you in your state of awakening and awareness of the world and humankind? If not, why? We are our consciousness. We are creation, the universe. All as one, one as all. A moment here, a moment gone. Be your greatest self. May the spirit of love surround you this holiday season. Namaste’ Nancy Lombardo
