Live Your Best Life

​My chosen book for February’s book study for the Church of the Living Spirit was “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz. As I have stated in church, I am not much of a book reader, but this book was recommended to me by a very dear friend of mine who is also a shaman. She said the book is life changing.  I bought this book and was happy to see that it was a short book that looked like an easy read.  While reading the book, I found myself highlighting many sentences and would finish a chapter thinking…that made a lot of sense. When I finished the book, I got out a piece of paper and wrote out the four agreements.

• Be impeccable with your words
• Don’t take anything personally
• Don’t make assumptions
• Always do your best

It’s not like I haven’t tried to be a good person and do the right thing throughout my entire life, because I feel that I truly have. But to simplify what it exactly means, to be a person of integrity, into four simple statements, made it feel easier to understand and to follow. So yes, like my friend said, this book can be life changing.  Now don’t get me wrong, have I faltered from following these “agreements”?  Yes, I have.   But the difference now is that when I catch myself saying something that maybe I shouldn’t have, or taking things personally, or making assumptions without going directly to the source, I stop, and remind myself of these simple agreements and get back on track with how I want and choose to live my life.  I will close with the last agreement, “always do you best”.  It is the most any of us can do.  To do the best we can.  To be the best person we can be.  To live the best life we can live.  Because as we all know too well, life goes by in flash and onto the next dream we will go.  Namaste’ my friends.
