The April7th quote on my calendar of daily inspirations was “Don’t ruin a good today by thinking about a bad yesterday.” I can honestly say that is a problem that I don’t have. I accept that any and all past experiences have led me to where I am now and I have a good life.
My potential for ruining a good today lies in the future with the fear-based scenarios I create in my mind of, “What if this or that should happen?” In her final years, my blind, wheelchair confined mother had a lot of time with little to do but sit and think. During our daily phone visits, she expressed similar fears about what could happen to different family members. I remember trying to ease them by sharing a quote by Michael J. Fox: “If you fixate on the worst-case scenario and it actually happens; you've lived it twice". (Note to self; none of her concerns ever happened). I remind myself of this every time I let one of these thoughts creep in. I am facing a major change in my future, and it makes the present that much more precious. I don’t want to waste one moment on fear of the future when I can be using them to gather precious memories Peace, Roy Montgomery
