I am awake! These three words by the Buddha are packed with knowing. "I am awake" is much more than a simple statement of the awareness of the waking state we all experience as we open our eyes and greet the day. It is from this new awareness that the Buddha began his teaching with his followers. The Buddha and all the masters before and after him awoke from the dream of forgetfulness and remembered who they truly are. I have a friend who, when I am asking the big life and death questions, will often say in a playful way, "You must have forgot". We have all forgotten! The good thing about forgetting is that we at some time must have "known". And the knowing is still with us. All we have ever known or heard or seen is recorded within. Perhaps this is why our Pioneers urged us to go within. Go within still carries with it the sense of urgency intended by Cora Richmond and all our wonderful pioneers. Are we dreaming? Did we forget? Are we indeed sleeping? Waking up is hard to do! (says the song). Asleep we are unable to realize our full potential. Meditation is one way to bring us to our awakening and aid our greater understanding. In silence the teachings are heard. In stillness the world is transformed. Be still! In the stillness we wake up. Not to worry...........we have eternity! namaste! emmy chetkin
